Apple didn’t announce any new software updates at the event, but the company did issue a press release following the event detailing what’s coming to AirPods along with the new iOS 17.
The first new feature is a combination of Transparency mode and Active Noise Cancellation called Adaptive Audio. According to Apple, this listening mode will adjust audio for users based on their surroundings to reduce distracting noise.
A new feature called Conversation Awareness will automatically lower the content audio when someone is speaking to the AirPods wearer. And another announced addition, Personalized Volume, will “fine tune” the audio settings automatically based on users’ preferences over time.
