After a few seasons of whimsy and fantasy, Sandy Liang has come back to reality. That doesn’t mean the magic of Liang’s bows and fun are completely gone, but it was more subtly present. “I love what we’re doing with the styling this season. I think it’s very me,” the designer proclaimed. “It’s feeling girly, but really comfortable and really easy and there are touches of hyper sport and femininity.” It comes as no surprise that some of Liang’s best performing Instagram posts on her brand page show how she styles her pieces on herself.
Playing with the concept of how Liang would wear her clothes, sporty jackets and pullovers were paired with her more girlish skirts. The season’s opening look included a very simple black pullover and its matching mini skirt, paired with a hot pink kitten heel and bum bag. The gorpy bum bag added a practical touch but still had those quippy Liang moments, including a label that read “Sandy Liang x 3000,” for reasons other than the fact that Liang felt it was reminiscent of Y2K-era athleisure.
What stood out most though was Liang’s reimagined basics. Hot after her sold out Cou Cou Intimates collab, there were more versions of intimates, including satin and nylon bra tops that could be worn either as an undergarment or one’s only garment, pending the wearer’s preference. Colorful knitwear came in an assortment of candy colors and paired well with the brand’s cute skirts from the simple satin to the fun sequin options. However the collection’s most strongest piece was a simple satin LBD. The back remained open, while two long strands mimicking ribbons were undone—an unexpected move from the bow obsessed brand.
