Just One Thing: Meet Cartier’s New Clash de Cartier Bag

Presented by Cartier

Deciding between a new piece of jewelry or a new bag? Cartier would rather you didn’t have to choose. The maison’s newly launched Clash de Cartier bag is essentially both, borrowing its defining detail from the Clash de Cartier jewelry collection.

The debut tote, introduced globally on September 1, 2026 and available in three sizes, is defined by two jewelry clasps positioned on either side of its handle, each modeled after the signature stud of Clash de Cartier (the jewelry collection, introduced in 2019, is known for its geometric studs, beads, and clous carrés). With a simple twist, the studs open and close the sides of the bag, allowing its envelope-inspired silhouette to shift along with them: left open, it’s softer and more relaxed; fastened, more tailored and structured.

That versatility extends to how it’s worn. The Clash can be carried in the hand, tucked into the crook of the arm, or worn over the shoulder, while its clean, pared-back shape keeps the jewelry-like hardware front and center. Crafted in Cartier’s workshops in Florence, the bag is made from exceptionally fine naturally grained leather, selected for its soft, tactile finish and designed to develop an elegant patina with time.

As for color, there’s black and caramel, but the burgundy feels particularly Cartier. The shade became a house signature with the Must de Cartier collection in the 1970s, when the maison expanded its universe of precious objects into leather goods and accessories. Decades later, the color remains instantly associated with Cartier—and feels especially fitting on a bag that once again brings the codes of its jewelry into its leather goods.

As for how to wear it, we’re partial to a silk Cartier scarf loosely knotted around the handle—a styling trick worth stealing for fall.
