There can be a certain pressure among celebrities on Hollywood’s red carpets: that is, to constantly level-up and outdo yourself. Bolder colors, more elaborate silhouettes—longer trains! But this week’s best dressed stars proved that a classic and effortless look will always reign supreme. A-listers kept things upbeat with unfussy designs that nailed the joyous feeling of summer dressing.
Take Anne Hathaway, who continued her maternity fashion kick while promoting The Odyssey in New York by wearing a long, sweeping blue Alaïa maxi dress: It felt elegant yet extremely comfort-minded. Also in the Big Apple was Anya Taylor-Joy, who made a white tee and black dress pants look fresh, thanks to a saucy little waist belt from Tom Ford. Classic, with a twist.
As for the more ambitious standouts of the week, Gracie Abrams—fresh off releasing her third studio album—emerged wearing a color-blocked Chanel frock. Zendaya, seeing out The Odyssey’s press tour as Athena incarnate, looked to Matières Fécales for an angelic white gown with built-in wings. On anyone else, such a design could look costumey, yet leave it to Z (and Law Roach!) to pull it off seamlessly.
