After spending 2022 adding M2 chips to its MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iPad Pros, Apple finally got around to upgrading its Mac mini with that next-gen silicon earlier this year. The ultra-portable desktop computer now offers even zippier performance and support for up to two displays at its most affordable price yet: just $599 for the 256GB base model.

That’s what it normally costs, to be clear. Hustle, though, and you can get it on sale as of April 5 for even cheaper: Amazon(Opens in a new tab) just listed it for $499.99, a record-low price that appears to be an exclusive. (It wasn’t matched at Best Buy(Opens in a new tab) or B&H Photo(Opens in a new tab) at the time of writing.)

If you need a bit more storage, note that Amazon also had the 512GB configuration(Opens in a new tab) on sale. You can lock it in at $689.99, which is almost $110 off its $799 MSRP and its own lowest price to date.

As mentioned, Apple’s upgrades for this new desktop are primarily internal; the Mac mini’s boxy, rectangular look has gone virtually unchanged since it got a unibody redesign(Opens in a new tab) in 2010. It now has an 8-core CPU with a 10-core GPU (up from an 8-core GPU in the M1 generation) for a bump in graphics performance when you’re editing videos and playing games. It also adds an upgraded headphone jack and two Thunderbolt 4 ports for advanced connectivity(Opens in a new tab).

These aren’t massive, earth-shattering updates, but they definitely make it a worthy upgrade for any work-from-home setup — especially at these prices.
