Every year, the spring exhibition at the Costume Institute ushers in the yearâs most glamorous eventâthe Met Gala. This yearâs show is âSuperfine: Tailoring Black Style,â which will explore 300 years of Black style in the Atlantic diaspora with the dandy at its center. Itâs a subject sure to deliver an instantly legendary red carpet. If recent award shows have taught us anything itâs that guys are really out here dressinâ, but further emphasizing the uniqueness of the 2025 Met Galaâs proceedings is the fact that this is the first Costume Institute exhibition since 2003âs âBravehearts: Men in Skirtsâ to focus exclusively on menswear.
This yearâs co-chairs: Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and A$AP Rocky, and honorary co-chair Lebron James, are known not only for being some of the best-dressed men on the planet, but also for their unwavering commitment to exploring their own personal style. âTheyâre all men who arenât afraid to take risks with their self-presentation. They take advantage of classic forms, but they also remix them and break them down in really new ways,â said Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu curator in charge of the Costume Institute late last year. âI think Black men and Black designers are very much at the forefront of this new renaissance in menswear.â
The dress code this year is Tailored for You, which leaves much space for experimentation and personalization. So, what weâre saying is, everyone should be ready for one superfine good night.
