Inside Vogue Club’s ‘Meet The Founder’ with Jenna Lyons

Last week, Vogue Club kicked off 2024 with the iconic Jenna Lyons at Vogue HQ, in conversation with Vogue’s beauty editor at large, Arden Fanning Andrews, and Margaux Anbouba, Vogue’s senior beauty and wellness Editor. The energetic conversation between the trio covered all things beauty and business—from Lyons’s signature look (a slicked-back hairstyle and red lip) and her time leading J.Crew, to starting Loveseen and the mentors she’s found along the way.

“It was honestly out of pure laziness—when I was at J.Crew, I was working my ass off and had a little kid,” Lyons candidly told the audience of developing her signature look. “I didn’t have time to put makeup on because I couldn’t manage it with my schedule. So, I wound up putting my hair back because my son would pull on it, and it just looked neater pulled back. Then I put on a red one day, and it looked better in the pictures; I just looked a little brighter, and I , I’m going to repeat this.” She went on to joke that glasses were another practical measure; without them she kept tripping up the stairs.

The conversation’s lucky attendees received their copy of Vogue US’s March issue and a selection of Lyons’s Loveseen eyelashes. In addition to the whimsical beauty chat (and tips on eyelash application), Lyons also shared hard-hitting advice on overcoming obstacles and maintaining a sense of inspiration.

“When you actually start to talk to other people who’ve started businesses, everyone will tell you the same thing: It’s hard. Things go wrong, and then they go great, and then wrong again—the self-doubt is pervasive,” Lyons shared. “Worrying about things you cannot control is a losing game. Only focus on the things you can control. So if I’m feeling like something is out of control, and I can’t do anything about it, I just turn my attention to something I can control.” Words to live by.
